《Madden NFL》系列诞生于1989年，其第一作因为采用了著名的橄榄球队教练兼橄榄球电视节目主持人John Madden为代言人而引起了广大橄榄球迷的关注，从当时开始就具备了成为橄榄球游戏王牌大作的风范。后来EA获得了美国国家橄榄球联盟的授权，于是将《Madden Football》更名为《Madden NFL》，其后基本上固定了每年推出一款新作的惯例。目前该系列销量已经突破了4300万套，进入2000年后其每一款新作的销量都在400万套以上，一直都是北美最畅销的体育游戏。该系列的最新作《Madden NFL 06》将于8月9日发售，对应全部平台。另外，由于EA已经买断了NFL的授权，因此今后只有EA采用NFL的游戏，《Madden NFL》系列的销量势必将会再创新高。
